What is a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT)?
Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) is the test and inspection process performed at the manufacturer’s facility before shipment to verify that completed equipment, systems or machines comply with the technical specification, contractual requirements and applicable standards.
A typical FAT scope includes functional testing, performance verification, safety checks and documentation review. The goal is to identify potential issues before delivery to reduce schedule and cost risks during site installation and commissioning.
Why FAT Matters
- Confirms technical compliance prior to shipment.
- Reduces risks during installation and commissioning on site.
- Enables performance verification at the manufacturer’s facility.
- Allows nonconformities to be corrected at lower cost and effort.
- Supports adherence to the project schedule.
Typical Checks Performed During FAT
1) Functional Tests
All operating modes, alarm scenarios, safety interlocks and control logic are verified for the equipment or system under test.
2) Performance Tests
Capacity, efficiency, response time, load tests and performance criteria defined in the specification are measured and evaluated.
3) Electrical and Mechanical Checks
Wiring, terminations, grounding, labeling, installation quality and mechanical integrity are checked.
4) Safety and Protection Tests
Emergency stop functions, protection relays, safety interlocks and HSE requirements are verified.
5) Documentation Review
Test reports, quality certificates, bills of materials, drawings and user documentation are reviewed for completeness and consistency.
How We Manage the FAT Process
RAMIRA Energy supports FAT from planning through final reporting using a structured approach:
- Preparation/review of the FAT test plan and procedures
