OHL Inspection: Field Controls & Compliance Verification

Overhead line (OHL) inspection is a field-based verification service to confirm that manufacturing, installation and erection activities comply with project documentation, technical specifications and applicable quality criteria. Depending on the project stage, the scope may include on-site checks, measurements/verification steps and independent reporting of findings.

Typical Inspection Scope

1) Poles/Towers and Foundations

Structure types, foundation works, anchoring and erection compliance may be checked in terms of dimensions, alignment and workmanship quality. Observations focus on verifying compliance with approved design details.

2) Insulators and Line Hardware

Insulator strings, suspension/tension sets, fittings, fasteners and accessories may be verified for correct installation, integrity and compliance with design/specification requirements.

3) Conductors, Tensioning and Splices

Conductor stringing, tension values, joints/splices and connection points can be checked against sag and clearance criteria. Where needed, measurements and visual verification are performed to evaluate compliance with acceptance requirements.

4) Earthing and Protection Measures

Pole/tower earthing arrangements, continuity checks and protection measures may be verified for safety and system reliability. If applicable, records and measurement results can be included in the report.

5) Site Practice and HSE Observations

HSE conditions, tool/equipment use, work permits and high-risk area controls may be observed. Critical risk points can be documented and reported.

6) Documentation and Traceability

Material certificates, installation records, checklists and field reports may be reviewed. Traceability is verified through matching equipment/material with relevant certificates and records.

7) NCR and Corrective Action Follow-Up

Identified nonconformities can be classified and reported; corrective actions may be followed up and closure verification performed. This creates a transparent “finding–action–closure” cycle for project stakeholders.

8) Reporting

Results are reported with photo evidence, measurement/location references and recommended actions, providing clear, evidence-based and actionable outputs.
